BUYING TICKETS FOR RHYTHM at... London's legendary 100 CLUB

All customers should be 18 years or older.

The 100 Club is a club not a theatre and it is not a seated venue. We have a limited number of tables and chairs - the amount varies depending on the type of event. Usually on a Friday night we have 60-80 seats in total and our total capacity is 290. Please get in early if you want a table and seats (doors open at 7.30pm) and remember that we cannot save or guarantee chairs and/or tables. Please DO NOT move the furniture around the room - the lay-out is carefully designed not to breach fire regulations and to offer the optimum view to the maximum number of people.

Please remember that rules exist for your safety and security and that we apply them to everybody.

1. General terms and conditions (the legal stuff)
Once purchased, tickets cannot be transferred, exchanged, refunded or returned unless the event is cancelled, or if the headline act is changed. The right to admission is reserved by the promoter and venue management, who may take health and safety, environmental and security concerns into account at their reasonable discretion, and who may from time to time carry out security searches.

2. Buying from ticket agencies (Ticketweb, Seetickets and Stargreen)
Whenever you buy tickets from these sources you will be charged a booking fee. This is generally something around £2 and is added to the cost of the ticket. This is how the agencies make their money. All agencies have regular customers who cheerfully pay up, appreciating the extra services the agency provides. Often they can procure tickets for events that are otherwise sold out and most agencies will keep you notified of future events at a wide range of venues. We earn nothing from this booking fee and have nothing to do with your transaction with them.
If it is too close to the event to send out tickets, Ticketweb and Seetickets may put you on the "willcall" list. This means that your name will be held at the door on the night. When you arrive (any time after doors open), please tell the cashier your name and have the credit/debit card handy that you used to pay for the transaction. Please note that we will not have tickets for you to take away. You can however leave the names of members of your party who will be arriving after you and we will let them in when they turn up.

3. Buying from this site via Paypal
Paypal is part of Ebay and lets you to buy tickets online using a credit or debit card. We've found them reliable and trustworthy. They charge us 20p per transaction plus 2.9% of the ticket price, but you don't have to worry about that - all you pay is a £1 per transaction booking fee (erroneously tagged by Paypal as 'postage'), regardless of how much you spend. This goes a little way towards covering our admin costs, any postage and the cost of security ticket printing.
You can buy tickets for any event right up to the night of the gig using this method. If there's less than a week to go then no tickets will be sent out, instead your name will be added to the 'Will-Call' list kept at the 100 Club Box Office on the night. You will probably get an email acknowledging your payment and telling you most of this, but if you don't get one - DON'T PANIC! If you nordered tickets less than a week before teh gig, just turn up on the night (any time after doors open at 7.30pm) with a print out of the Paypal page and we'll let you in. (If it's longer than that, please email us). You can buy tickets from us with confidence knowing that if things go wrong we will invariably be able to sort it out to everybody's satisfaction! We've always managed to so far.
Lost tickets: very occasionally tickets we send out get lost in the post, but again, DON'T PANIC. Inform us immediately by email if you suspect your tickets have been lost or stolen. This should usually be about 7-10 days after you had confirmation that they are being posted.
We will have kept a note of your ticket numbers and the first step we take is to report it to our security people who keep an eye on Ebay and hundreds of other outlets for dodgy tickets. You will then be added to the 'Will-call' list (see above) for admission. The door security will be watching out for your tickets on the night and will not, under any circumstances, allow anyone in holding them. (It is therefore important that you notify us immediately should your tickets subsequently show up after you report them lost or stolen. It only takes a couple of emails to "call off the dogs".)

4. Buying from us by post
The main thing to remember is that this is our home and we don't really want people ringing our doorbell at all hours of the day and night, even if you do happen to live nearby. We will normally turn around tickets within 2-3 days but please make sure you send off your money at least a week in advance of the gig. Make cheques payable to "J. Driver" and enclose a cover note, a first class (34p) stamped-addressed envelope, your daytime telephone number and an email address (if you have one).

5. In person at JB's Records
JB's Records in Hanway Street are doing us a favour by selling tickets at face value, so please respect them and, if you see something you like, feel free to buy a record or CD. Please pay them in cash - the right money would be appreciated - and remember that they only have a limited number of tickets to sell for each event. People wanting to buy five or more tickets for any one event should email me on pay@smartermusic.net to arrange this.

6. Paying cash on the door
Please check either on this website or by telephoning the 100 Club (020 8636 0933) that the event is not sold out before travelling. And please arrive as early as you can after doors open at 7.30pm – we have no way of knowing how many other people are coming and so events do occasionally sell out very quickly. I am afraid that unless tickets are bought and paid for, we cannot save places.
On the night we can only accept cash (sterling bank notes and coins) for payment. The admission price is usually more than the advance ticket price and is as stated on our flyers and website. Should the 100 Club diary or Time Out or even the Radio Times list a different price then, sorry, but we charge what we charge and cannot honour someone else's error.

7. Touts
Like all West End music venues, we now have a problem with ticket touts. We have had many cases of people who have been robbed or refused change by these touts and occasionally the tickets they are selling are forged or stolen. Please DO NOT SELL TO OR BUY FROM THESE TOUTS, who are invariably violent drug addicts and the money they receive undermines the work of agencies trying to clean up our streets. They invariably tell people that we are 'sold out', even when we are not and that their tickets are cheaper than the price on the door. You should be aware that the buying, selling and transferring of tickets can be illegal - especially when they have originally been bought credit cards and sold for cash - and you may find youself seriously out of pocket, unable to enter the club even after buying seemingly valid tickets from them, and subject to prosecution. The money they make does not benefit the band or the club in any way and usually ends up in the hands of a drug-dealer or organised criminals. So, please don't... OK!

Phew... does that cover it all? I think it does.
See you soon!

cheers
jim

HOW DO I FIND THE 100 CLUB?
The 100 Club is situated in the basement of 100 Oxford Street, W1, midway between Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus tube stations. These buses stop outside the door: 7, 8, 25, 55, 98, 176, N8, N25, N176, and N207
and the following buses stop 30 metres away: 10, 73, N73.
Here's a map.

I'VE PAID FOR TICKETS VIA PAYPAL AND THEY'VE NOT SHOWN UP DO I PANIC?
No! There is no advantage in our taking your money and not letting you into the show. Our aim is that you come in, enjoy yourself and come back back on a regular basis. If there's less than a week to go then no tickets will be sent out, instead your name will be added to the 'Will-Call' list kept at the 100 Club Box Office. You will probably get an email acknowledging your payment and telling you most of this, but if you don't get one - DON'T PANIC! Just email us, letting us know your tickets haven't arrived and turn up on the night with a print out of the Paypal page and we'll let you in. WHY DON'T HEADLINE BANDS GO ON EARLIER ON FRIDAY NIGHTS SO THAT WE CAN CATCH OUR LAST TRAINS HOME?
We time bands to finish by 11pm so that people can catch that all-important final train home. We then aim to party on until 1am with our DJs. Occasionally bands do play past this time - but only very exceptionally. Very often people don't realise that most trains run quite late - check the early Saturday morning schedule for the really last trains. I have included a few examples below.
Click here to check out the Transport For London website for more information.

WHAT TIME DO THE LAST TRAINS RUN?
Here are a few examples of last trains from Oxford Circus on Friday nights (it might be earlier during the week) - but please remember to check before setting out...
Central Line to Ealing Broadway - 00.30am
Central Line to Redbridge - 00.30am
Victoria Line to Walthamstow Central - 00.38am
Victoria Line to Brixton 00.28am
Bakerloo Line to Queens Park (00.33)
Colchester (00.52)
Harpenden (01.47)
Guildford (00.09)
Slough (01.25)
Orpington (00.48).
Of course, these are just examples, your station may be later or earlier. The night bus network is now pretty good and sharing a taxi can be economical. For example, an Addison Lee six-seater to Lewisham will cost around £22, which divided by six is not much and they'll even text you on your mobile to say they've arrived.

CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY LOCAL MINICAB/TAXI FIRMS?
No. We can't really recommend anybody, but here are a few licensed firms we've heard are OK. Addison Lee are very reliable but they're also quite expensive. Please remember that at peak times most minicabs and taxis tend to arrive late or are impossible to book, so book ahead. We've found it best to arrange for pre-booked taxis to meet you in a side street around the 100 Club (Berners Street, perhaps?). Oxford Street at 1.00am is a scramble for taxis and it can lead to unnecessary grief...

WHY AREN'T THERE MORE CHAIRS PUT OUT ON RHYTHM at... NIGHTS?
You must bear in mind that we are a club and not a theatre and that a good number of people like to move around and dance. With too much furniture in the place that can be difficult. On special concert nights (eg Roy Harper, Fairport Acoustic, etc) we do put out more chairs and let less people in - that's why tickets for these types of shows tend to be more expensive than for our usual Friday nights.
We used to put out more tables and chairs but it meant that a very vocal majority compalined that they couldn't see or get near enough to the stage. We'd also have logistical problems when the chairs were moved around so that no one could get to the toilets and then we had to ask doormen to ask these people to move their chairs and then they'd get upset and say they should be able to sit where they want... so we cut back and limited furniture to one half of the room (removing only about five tables and 20 seats, by the way) and it seems to work. Typically there have been 60-70 chairs out at every Friday gig we do, which - as we usually get somewhere just over 200 people in - is almost one for every three customers. My advice is always to get there when doors open at 7.30pm if you really do want a seat.

WHY DON'T YOU GET RID OF ALL THOSE POXY CHAIRS AND TABLES?
Because some people like to sit down (see above).

WHY DO YOU CHARGE MORE TO SEE BANDS THAN MY LOCAL PUB?
Because we're not just putting on a gig, we're trying to provide a night out. For a typical pub gig by a band we might book – such as like Wilko Johnson or The Hamsters – you'd probably expect to spend £8-£10 to get in. Fine. What you maybe wouldn't get would be a support act – and we try and provide good quality acts and we always pay - usually £150-£500 per act, depending on who it is – you wouldn't get a DJ (instead there'd probably be a 'best of' loop tape), and you wouldn't be able to stick around having fun - if you so desire – until 1am. We have to hire the 100 Club, pay the security (who are there for your protection), the PA, sound engineer, the bands and the DJ – and that all costs money. Rather than just put on a band, give them a percentage of the door take and just take the cash, we aim to make every Friday night a great night out!

WHY DON'T YOU BOOK ELVIS PRESLEY?
Because he's dead. And even if he wasn't he'd probably want to play Earls' Court instead (go figure!). We do try and present a wide variety of acts, whilst always trying to keep the quality high.

WHY DON'T YOU BOOK MORE TRIBUTE BANDS?
We do, very occasionally. If the band are exceptional and if the act they are tributing are better than the blighters now (and if they add something, like The Rollin Stoned), we'll do a Special. But not very often - we'd rather have originals any old day. Check the Home Page for details of upcoming shows.
